Tablescape and Why We Get Fat

I created this little tablescape because I was in the mood for something a little cozier. It felt a little bare before. The plate at the back I got at an antique store at the beach, my one treat.  I finally put my A/C on this afternoon. I've been trying to do without it and we've had very few warm days, but I just don't feel well when it gets above 70. That's why I live in the pacific northwest. I also don't sleep well when it's warm in the house. We usually have a breeze that keeps things comfortable but not today.

I've been reading a book called "Why We Get Fat" by Gary Taubes. It is confirming that low carb is the way to go. It's interesting because it talks about how this has been known for years. The food police have been against low carb and for low fat. Well it is because of diabetes that I learned the truth. My problem is that even though I know it, it's not easy to do. It has been a gradually process for me. I really learned a lot from this book about how our bodies work and I understand better now why I don't want to eat the things I should and why I can't seem to get below a certain point. I hope with this knowledge I'll be motivated to succeed in losing the rest of the weight I want to lose.

I've also been watching the Lord of the Rings DVDs and all the extra info about making the movies has been really interesting. I'm just amazed by what they put into these movies, the detail work in every area. Peter Jackson really went for it and all the actors put their all into it also. They all came to love the story if they weren't already a fan. It really helped me to appreciate the books even more. The movies are kind of gross, but the story still has a good message.

I'm going to look for the book you recommended. I continue to battle the bulge but it's still winning. :( I hope you are well!

You have been blogging for quite a while about your struggle with your weight. You have never said how much you need to loose. I wonder if it is much. I would love to loose 25 lbs but Mr. B has diabetes and needs to loose a lot. He is not motivated and I can't motivate him. Good luck in your quest. Nancy

Hi Linda!

I love your table scape - you really have a knack for making things look so pretty and cozy! The antique plate is just beautiful, the little red flowers are very charming and quaint.

Low carb is sooooo hard for me! I'm not too much of a meat eater, so it's hard to get enough protein. I will have to check out the book, sounds like an interesting read!

It has been the strangest year, don't you think?! I have only had the air on half a dozen times this year. Last night it was very cold, I felt like turning on the heat. My garden is suffering from all the cool days and even cooler nights. I guess I won't complain too much - at least it's not in the 100's!

Hugs,
Barb

Nancy, No I don't have a lot to lose, 10 lbs. would put me into the healthy weight range. I just struggle with getting below 150 and also with maintaining what I have lost. I keep losing and gaining the same 5-7 lbs. Linda

Hi Linda~
Thanks for stopping by today and commenting about herbal tea. This is my first try at it ~ we'll see how it goes! :~D
Your table scape is lovely! I especially love the plate and little cream pitcher! So pretty!
My garden didn't do great this year either. Lots of weeds, no fruit on the tomato plants (yet! I'm still hoping!) but the pole beans look great. They are just now starting to flower, though! Every year it is different! Wierd weather this year!
Blessings!
p.s. Are you Clarice's mother?

Linda...I agree that low carbs is what works. It's hard but I like the results. Kind of blew it on vacation, but I'm back on track.
Wishing you the best!
