I've been harvesting my hydrangeas. I got some beautiful colors this year. I also bought several sugar pie pumpkins so I can freeze the pumpkin. They taste some much better than the canned stuff. I like pumpkin pie and pumpkin cheese cake as well as pumpkin muffins and pancakes. Pumpkin custard is good too.
I found some new green sauces to play with Gremolata and Chimichurri. Again there are variations of both. If you do a search on foodnetwork.com you will find some and some of my cookbooks have variations too.
Chimichurri is from Argentina and usually served over grilled steak. I found 2 recipes using fish
here and
here. The first one is by Bobby Flay and is Fire Roasted Swordfish Steak with Pineapple-Mustard Glaze and Cilantro Chimichurri and Grilled Pineapple Salsa and Pickled Green Chiles. The second one is by Giada De Laurentiis and is Chicken and shrimp with Pancetta Chimichurri.
Gremolata I think is Greek, but I'm not sure. I say that because it has lemon zest in it. I found a recipe using Portobellos that sounded different
here. This one is by Bobby Flay again and is Grilled Portobellos with Hazelnut Gremolata.
Both sauces can be used on a lot of different proteins and veggies. I'm having tummy problems again but want to try them out as soon as I can.
My schedule this week was a lesson in flexibility. A schedule isn't any good if it isn't flexible. I'm continuing to try and make my dailies habitual and haven't been able to really work on the weeklies much. I have a feeling with the holidays coming it's going to be difficult to do much but even with what I've done so far my house is in pretty good shape.
We had a fun Halloween. I love seeing all the kiddies in their costumes. My gd's are into cos-play and one was an anima character and the other was a steam-punk girl. They did wonderful jobs making their costumes and were able to wear them to a teen party at the library which has a teen club. The girls have been making costumes every year for several years now and have gotten quite good at it.
As I said I'm sick again. I've been trying to test dairy to see if I'm intolerant to it, but I'm beginning to think I just got a bug that upset my system and it will take a while to go away.
Have you watch Chew yet. It's on ch 4 at noon here. It has some of my favorite Food Network starts on it, Mario Batali and Michael Simon as well as Carla from Top Chef. Carla is a wonderful southern cook, Michael is Greek and cooks a lot of meat and is an Iron Chef, Mario is an amazing Italian chef and also an Iron Chef. If you've ever watched the Iron Chef they are all very talented. The show talks about seasonal foods and has celeb guests. They also have a health food person that talks about how to make things healthier. Here last name is Oz so I don't know if she's Dr. Oz's daughter. They've said her father is a doctor. Anyway they also have a
website and you can watch the shows there and get
recipes.
I've been reading a book by Debbie Macomber called "Twenty Wishes" and it's about these widows that meet and decided to make a list of 20 hearts desires to get their lives going again and I've been thinking about it and wondering if I could come up with 20 wishes. I'm not sure with no money, but I might just make it 20 dreams if I was young and rich. lol

I love your Hydrangeas, they are such a beautiful color! Unfortunately, they don't grow well here - heaven knows I've tried!
The green sauces look so delicious, I can't wait to try some of them. I love, "The Chew", I've learned so much from watching it - it's fun to see all them in a different setting.
Organizing is on the top of my list these days, I don't even know how I get so far behind. I will pass on any great tips I find!
I'm going to check out Debbie Macombers book, sounds like a good read!

Oh Linda, those hydrangeas are amazing! What a joy to have those on your table I am sure.
I so agree about using fresh pumpkin puree you make yourself. I had to use it when I moved to Holland as they do not have canned pumpkin here. I have to start cooking my pumpkin too. I will do one maybe tomorrow. I love how the house smells as it bakes in the oven. I wonder how you cook yours to make your puree? I bake mine in a pan with milk.
